The Sandblasting Process
The compressed air is used as the power to form a high-speed jet beam to spray the spray material (copper ore, quartz sand, emery, iron sand, sea sand) to the surface of the workpiece to be treated at high speed, so that the appearance or shape of the workpiece surface is changed.
Due to the impact and cutting effect of abrasive on the surface of the workpiece, the surface of the workpiece obtains a certain degree of cleanliness and different roughness, so that the mechanical properties of the surface of the workpiece are improved, so that the fatigue resistance of the workpiece is improved, the adhesion between it and the coating is increased, the durability of the coating is extended, and the flow of the coating is also conducive to the decoration.
AFI Sandblasting & Finishing Capabilities
AFI Industrial Co., Ltd. can provide professional sandblasting surface treatment according to your needs. We use different media, such as steel grit and glass beads, to ingeniously create matte or smooth finishes, enhancing the appearance and performance of the products. Our precision sandblasting can ensure the surface quality of the products, enhance durability and meet the quality requirements of the products.
Technical Specifications
Stress Management: Controlled blasting parameters to assist in residual stress relief without compromising dimensional tolerances.
Surface Roughness Control: Precise management of Ra (Roughness Average) values to meet specific friction or bonding requirements.
Media Versatility: Selection of Glass Beads, Aluminum Oxide, or Ceramic Grit based on material hardness and desired reflectivity.
Contamination Prevention: Specialized protocols for stainless steel to prevent intergranular corrosion and surface embedded iron.
Our technical engineers manually review every RFQ to align blasting media and pressure with your part’s geometry and alloy composition. We focus on repeatable results that meet rigorous industrial standards, providing a stable supply chain for complex manufacturing projects.
Advantages of Precision Sandblasting
Abrasive blasting is engineered for high-precision surface conditioning. For large-scale industrial components, it provides:
- Controlled Surface Topography: Achieve specific Ra values to optimize secondary coating adhesion or reduce friction.
- Mechanical Pre-treatment: Effective removal of thermal scale, oxidation, and micro-burrs without altering critical dimensions.
- Stress Management: Induces beneficial compressive residual stress to enhance the fatigue life of high-performance alloys.
- Scaleable Consistency: Automated processes ensure uniform matte or satin finishes across production batches of thousands to millions.
- Material Integrity: Non-chemical cleaning prevents intergranular corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement in sensitive metals.
Technical Limitations of Sandblasting
While sandblasting is essential for surface preparation, its technical constraints require precise engineering oversight. These factors influence initial project timelines and cost structures:
- Ra Value Sensitivity & Uniformity: Achieving specific arithmetic mean roughness (Ra) requires rigorous media selection. Over-processing can lead to dimensional deviations or uneven surface profiles.
- Surface Contamination & Intergranular Corrosion: Non-optimized media (e.g., recycled steel grit) can embed ferrous particles into stainless steel or aluminum substrates. If not managed, this creates localized galvanic cells and triggers intergranular corrosion.
- Residual Stress & Thin-Wall Deformation: High-velocity impact introduces compressive residual stress. For thin-walled precision components, this can cause warping or dimensional instability beyond specified tolerances.
- Masking Complexity for Critical Tolerances Protecting threaded holes, bearing seats, and mating surfaces requires custom silicone masking or precision taping. This increases manual labor hours during the pre-processing phase.
- Media Entrapment in Complex Geometries: Internal channels and blind holes are prone to media lodging. Ensuring 100% removal requires multi-stage ultrasonic cleaning and compressed air purging protocols.

Sandblasting Material
AFI Parts provides professional-grade sandblasting to optimize the surface integrity and functional performance of precision stamped components. We focus on achieving specific Ra values and preparing substrates for critical secondary processes.Material-Specific Performance:
- Stainless steel : stainless steel has excellent corrosion resistance, and sandblasting treatment can further improve its surface quality and corrosion resistance .
- Aluminum alloy : aluminum alloy is lightweight, has high strength, corrosion resistance, and sand blasting treatment can improve its surface finish and mechanical properties, widely used in aerospace and automotive industries .
- Titanium alloy : titanium alloy has high strength and corrosion resistance. Sandblasting can remove the oxide film on the surface and improve the surface finish and mechanical properties .
- Copper & Brass (C110, 230, 260): Removes tarnish and oxidation without compromising electrical conductivity. Ideal for achieving a uniform finish on complex busbars and connectors.
