Powder Coating Process

powder coating1

Powder spraying is to spray powder coating on the surface of the product through electrostatic spraying equipment, and then bake the powder at high temperature to melt, level, and cure, forming a uniform, smooth, and durable coating.
It can improve the adhesion and corrosion resistance of the coating, but also provide a rich choice of colors and textures, widely used in automotive, home appliances, construction, furniture, machinery manufacturing, and other fields.

AFI Industrial Co., Ltd. provides a variety of custom powder coating services, designed to give customers a unique product quality and charm. With rich spraying experience and advanced equipment, we can customize the most suitable spraying solution for customers from color selection to texture effect to special functional requirements such as thickness, etc., to ensure uniform coating, strong adhesion, bright and lasting color, and meet the various needs of customers.

What is Powder Coating Forming?

The powder coating process, through three-stage degreasing pretreatment including alkali washing, acid washing and surface adjustment, optimizes the surface roughness of the substrate to Ra0.8μm and compresses the porosity to below 0.3%. We formed a 60μm polyester-TGIC coating using 40kV electrostatic adsorption technology. After thermal curing at 200℃, a cross-linking reaction occurred to construct a three-dimensional network protective structure. The glossiness of the product was increased to 95GU, and the salt spray corrosion resistance time was extended to 1000 hours.

Its impact resistance is 300% higher than that of traditional processes. After application, the outer shell of household appliances can achieve an anti-UV aging ability of 10 years, with a surface scratch resistance of over 200,000 times. While ensuring a mirror-like effect, the comprehensive production cost is reduced by 40% compared to the electroplating process, making it a core technology in modern industrial surface treatment.

Available Powder Coating Options

Technical specifications for powder coating finishes are available for immediate online assessment. If the required substrate and coating combination is not listed, select “Other” within the finish parameters on the quotation interface. Submit the request for a technical desk review after defining the following parameters: coating thickness, surface gloss levels, tolerance requirements, and batch quantities.

Available Sheet Metal Finishes

Powder coating involves the electrostatic application of dry resin particles followed by thermal curing. This process creates a chemically cross-linked polymer layer that functions as a barrier against corrosion and mechanical impact.

Parts undergo automated degreasing and surface neutralization. The resulting coating maintains a consistent thickness according to industrial tolerances, providing a functional seal over the substrate without additional texture modification.

Substrates are processed with abrasive media to remove surface oxides and machining marks before coating. This mechanical pretreatment increases the surface area for resin adhesion and results in a non-reflective, uniform surface topology with a specific Ra value.

The powder formulation includes specialized friction agents that remain suspended during the melting phase. Upon curing, the surface forms a granular, high-friction profile that resists slip and conceals structural irregularities.

Surface finishes are categorized by their specular gloss units (GU). High-gloss options provide maximum light reflection, while matte finishes utilize matting agents to diffuse light and minimize surface glare.

If your project requires specific RAL colors, anti-microbial additives, or high-temp resistant resins, select “Other” for a technical desk review. Please specify the required film thickness ($T$) and salt spray resistance hours for environmental validation.

Industrial Advantages of Powder Coating

powder coating Corrosion Resistance
Corrosion Resistance

The powder coating process deposits a polymer barrier that isolates the metal substrate from environmental oxygen and moisture. This chemical cross-linking prevents oxidation and extends the service life of components in industrial and outdoor environments.

 powder coating Surface Uniformity
Surface Uniformity

Electrostatic application ensures the resin particles distribute across geometric profiles, including edges and recesses. The subsequent thermal curing phase allows the liquid polymer to level, resulting in a consistent film thickness without the run marks associated with liquid coating.

powder coating Mechanical Durability
Mechanical Durability

The cured coating achieves a high degree of adhesion through mechanical interlocking with the substrate. This protective layer maintains structural integrity under impact, abrasion, and thermal cycling, reducing the frequency of surface maintenance.
